She hid her drinking from her husband, and asked me and the other artist in this office to cover for her. I did it for awhile, because I valued my job. But her coming in to work at 10:00 hungover, then taking a 2-hour lunch "with clients," (always someplace that had booze, of course, because the sales guy was there too), and then leaving work at 4:00 to go to the bar. We were instructed that if we needed her, she'd be at X bar. But if her boss in ed, or her husband, to tell them she was at X company, or in a meeting. I just got completely fed up with that bullshit. And finally, I lost it. The next time her husband ed at 4:15, I told him where he could find her. Within two weeks, I was fired for "errors in my work." errors over a month period, while the average for other artists in our shop was about per week. I just have a very short fuse with people who allow outside influences (substances or other people, or other things) to control their own conscious choices. It's an ussue of dependency versus independence. And it bugs the hell out of me. Rant over. Flame all you want.
